MAX UEHLINGER AND BRUNO NIZZOLA

Two artist friends

17 May – 27 July 2008

The Museo d'arte Mendrisio is planning an exhibition for spring-summer 2008 which aims to explore the friendship and artistic collaboration between the artist Bruno Nizzola (Loco 1890 - Locarno 1963) and the sculptor Max Uehlinger (Zurich 1894 - Locarno-Muralto 1981). The decision to show the work of these two artists together - whose training, milieu and culture differ considerably - is based not only on the high quality of their works but also on the mutual respect, fellowship and familiarity which brought them to prominence, along with other artist friends, in a chapter of local cultural history of great human and moral value.
The same distinctive atmosphere that animated the Casa Rossa at Minusio, which was both home and studio to the sculptor Bruno Nizzola, can still be felt there today, mainly because of the conservation work carried out over several decades by the poet Angelo Casè, author of important critical works on both Nizzola and Uehlinger.
