EXHIBITION ARCHIVE - EXHIBITIONS SINCE 2005
TIMELINE - DYING
Casa Croci
20 October 2010 – 16 January 2011
Since 2008, an exhibition project entitled Timeline has been in progress at the Casa Croci, organised by the Museo d’arte Mendrisio. Spanning a three-year period, the project - curated by Fabio Soldini - addresses three fundamental stages of the cycle of human life: being born, getting married and dying.
The first exhibition, on Being Born, was held in 2008. It dealt with the biological aspects of pregnancy and giving birth, including social initiation from the choice of name to christening, some stages in growth such as breast feeding, playing and language learning, and finally, representations of childhood in literature and photography.
The second exhibition, on Getting Married, was held in late 2009-early 2010 and focused on the themes of courtship, engagement, marriage and matrimonial crisis.
The third one – Dying – runs from 20 October to 18 December 2010.
This exhibition explores the denial of death and the desire for immortality, religious and secular life after death, as well as natural and violent death (with a section on the death penalties).
