Apollonio Paul Pessina (1879 - 1958), a sculptor and painter from Ligornetto, was born in what is now known as "Casa Pessina". Some of his works are preserved in a permanent exhibition on the first floor, as well as the artist's library and archives.
The building was donated to the City of Mendrisio by Apollonio's sister, Bianca, and after careful renovation was transformed into a house of culture and inaugurated in 2003.
