Gianfredo Camesi
From space to time

22 May - 4 September 2022
Mendrisio Art Museum

Gianfredo Camesi, Lambda

Dallo spazio al Tempo (From Space to Time ) is the title of the project that the artist Gianfredo Camesi from Valmaggio has developed for the spaces of the Museo d'arte Mendrisio. A project that traces Camesi's artistic history in synthesis, from the works of his early maturity, such as Point vital or la Flèche, to works from 2016-17 that have remained unpublished, such as the entire series - sixteen works in total - of Retables (Altar Triptychs). This exhibition, comprising almost 80 works divided for the most part into series(Espaces Mesure du Temps, Vacuités, Chemin du corps, Forme de lumière, Portraits/Autoportrait) represents a summa of his artistic work. Fluidity and circularity are the characteristics of the route passing from one room to another inside the museum; but not only, creating an effective passage from the outside (cloister) to the starting point inside(Point vital located in a corner of the corridor). The catalogue accompanying the exhibition (texts: Simone Soldini, Walter Tschopp, Emanuela Burgazzoli, Linda Broggini) is intended to document not the individual works or series but the project as a photographic journey (photo: Stefano Spinelli).
Exhibition and catalogue curated by Gianfredo Camesi and Simone Soldini.

Chaosmos

22 May - 4 September 2022
Mendrisio Art Museum

Davide Cascio, Spider Bee, 2017, detail

Chaosmos consists of three site-specific interventions in the spaces of the Museo d'arte Mendrisio: a piece of furniture in the large hall on the first floor(Spider Bee) and some interventions also on the walls(Dangling painting relifs), a screening of the two arches towards the first corridor(Out) and an installation in the first hall(Riverrun). In addition, a number of works (including a series of collages) will also be presented to trace the most recent phases of his production, as well as a biographical section. Cascio is an artist from Ticino whose research generally starts from a careful analysis of sources from the past in order to develop modernist projects deeply connected to the concept of metamorphosis and conversion. His installations, with an architectural matrix, operate as a mental journey that, following the logic of unpredictability, cultivate utopian ideals. The main feature of his works is the meticulousness of the project, the methodical attention to materials, the geometric rigour that recalls both the constructivist and supremacist avant-garde movements of the early 20th century and the Bauhaus school and radical architecture.
